How can one feel so much and not want to be serenaded by love songs? Being in love automatically gives life beautiful background music that only you can hear. Music brings life even to the most mundane of things. It can sometimes become both a blessing and a curse as it can spark different emotions under any given circumstances. It can take you on a trip down memory lane and make you feel a certain way.

Even in the movies, every scene has a properly curated music scoring to match the mood of a scene which makes any scene more engrossing for the viewers. A happy scene is usually accompanied by a cheerful and upbeat song to express the happy vibe of the character. While a slow and slightly changing fast tempo can be the ideal music scoring to a hair raising scene in horror film. Different scenes require different types of music background.

The same thing goes in real life whenever you’re feeling sad and lonely just play sad songs in your car and sing along while driving. Tell me if you haven’t done that and felt much better afterwards? Music will always be every man’s best companion both in misery and in glee.

I appreciate songs not only for their beat but because of the lyrics. I find myself singing along to songs I can relate to or that which is very much fit to my current state. As long as I can relate to it, it remains my favourite song. Whenever any of my favourite songs play on shuffle I can't help but get a little nostalgic.

Who could ever forget their first crush? Realize was easily my song for my first crush in high school since I was too shy to tell him how I truly felt back then. I was always confused whether he liked me too, and like any teenager, I was awkward and didn't know how to react whenever he's there. So I succumbed to my headphones and played this song and felt every line of the lyrics hoping that he will get a hint. “But I can’t spell it out for you, you know it’s never gonna be that simple… If you just realize, what I just realized, then we’d be perfect for each other…” He did not get the hint. Not through the song, at least.

2. If you’re not the one by Daniel Bedingfield

Everyone remembers their first love. That all-consuming type of love that makes you so happy and unhappy at the same time. When you're young, you recognize that your whole life seems to be ahead of you. You know that your decisions would greatly affect your future. So maintaining a love life and at the same time achieving academic success can become a real struggle. We start to become cynical and wonder if this love is it. If this is the one then why is it becoming so hard? This part of the lyrics hits hard “I don’t want to run away but I can’t take it, I don’t understand. If I’m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am? Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?”.

3. Lego House by Ed Sheeran

Looking back, getting over your first heartbreak felt almost impossible. That's when you start building your walls. You set your standards a little higher. Scared to feel the same pain again until someone promising comes along. Listening to the beautifully written love song- Lego House almost gave me instant therapy. It made me hopeful that someday someone will be there to pick me up, even the broken pieces.

4. Cheerleader by OMI

This happy love song reminds me of someone because it reminds him of me. It's such a great feeling knowing that someone adores you for just being there, for just being present. The lyrics went, “When I need motivation, my one solution is my queen ‘cause she stays strong… Oh, I think that I found myself a cheerleader, she is always right there when I need her.”

Ed Sheeran knows how to write beautiful love songs. He speaks to the heart and soul. No debate. If you're going through a rough patch, or a recent break up then you have to steer clear of this love song. It can give your serious waves of emotions and make you tear up even in public. How can you not with these lyrics “Loving can hurt, loving can hurt sometimes but it’s the only thing that I know… so you can keep me inside the pocket of your ripped jeans, holding me close until our eyes meet, you won’t ever be alone, wait for me to come home.”

6. It’s a Heartache by Bonnie Tyler

Not all love songs elicit giddy feelings. Loving someone does not guarantee 24/7 happiness. There are bad days but there are also worst days. It can turn sweetness into bitterness. Breakups and heartaches are comparable to real physical illness except it's not treatable. When you feel defeated by love, listen to this song.

7. Way Back into Love by Hugh Grant and Haley Bennett

In time, you will overcome your heartbreak. I can't tell you when exactly, but I know for sure that day will just come. After some time you will wake up to a new day feeling brand new. Through time you can be healed, and then one day you will start to feel better. Way Back into Love pretty much sums up how I felt when I was trying to put myself back together.

When you've allowed yourself to fall in love again. This time more certain of how you feel. This time more careful of the other person's feelings. You find yourself wanting to offer almost everything in you to keep this new found love alive. This love song makes you want to be a better person for love.

This love song made it to my list because when you find something so great you only wish to keep it. When you meet someone you wish to spend the rest of your days with you'd want them to feel the same way. You don't want them to ever let go.


10. You are my sunshine by Christina Perri/ Johnny Cash/ Standard

This song may not be originally by Christina but it was her version that made me love it. The lyrics are simple but it just shows how beautiful and powerful love is. It's amazing how one person can be so significant in your life. Their smile can mean the world to you, and you will do anything to keep that smile faces.

It's good to have someone to love, it makes every day meaningful. It makes you look forward to waking up to another day. Even though sometimes that love isn't ours to keep. Always remember that life still goes on, no matter what.

Allow yourself to love and be loved. Don't let the pain from the past keep you from believing in love again. After some time you will be surprised that the pain isn't there anymore.
